Harassment can be difficult to prove

As a crime, harassment can be difficult to prove as we know so well via NFHiB, especially the "lower level" instances, e.g. your 'harasser' being outside when you are outside, watching your every move or behaving unnaturally.

The harassing party will always have some excuse for being there, even if the Police are called for assistance. Often an accused harasser can show distress by claiming "oh no, I waiting for a friend" or innocently claim "you must have the wrong end of the stick!" and so the catalogue of excuses and lies continues.

Perpetrator Enjoyment ?

Street YobsThe perpetrator is very much aware of what they are doing, sometimes it can take the torturous form of a "dripping tap" and at first the "victim" may not be aware of it as this can be extremely subtle.

The harassers goal could be that they wish their "victim" to move, or maybe it’s just a simple case of jealousy, or perhaps they feel intimidated by the victim; whatever the reasons are, they will go out of their way to harass and some perpetrators can even find it amusing or entertaining as they watch their victims "squirm".

Health & Wellbeing is negatively affected

The perpetrators of this crime are often aware that eventually it will lead to alarm or distress, which in turn can produce health and wellbeing problems for the unwanted person on the receipt of harassment - this can then lead to insomnia, anxiety and depression, poor concentration and can dramatically affect your self-confidence and self-respect.

Unfortunately this is what the harassing party ultimately wishes to achieve to maximize your discomfort, until you conform to what "they" want you to do.

I am homeless with my disabled child and am at my wits end; the council Lambeth, the local police and the anti social neighbour team should all be strung up as they have allowed this to continue - they are all useless.

Mend Britain:  We're sorry to learn of your troubles and hope you get them resolved soon. Please try the NFHiB forum at www.nfh.org.uk/forums for more help and advice. Take Care.

Thank you so much, my neighbour is very much the perpetrator; I thought that I was in the wrong.

This is exactly what my neighbours have done to me for many many years to the point I thought I have been going mad. Unfotunately no witnesses as I am on my own and this woman is a special needs teacher.
