Where has the 'neighbourly spirit gone?'

Cinema experience Televisions, surround sounds, home entertainment systems, poor quality sound proofed housing, they all play a part, but at the end of the day, it takes a particular kind of person to enforce their noise onto their neighbours without any thought or consideration for others.

The simple fact is some people feel it is there right to be able to play their stereo at an unbearable level till the early hours, and have a party that spills out onto the street. Anti social behaviour is a spreading epidemic and people are becoming more selfish as time goes on.

We have stopped being 'neighbours' to each other. Most people know barely know their neighbours names, let alone anything else about them. Gone are the days you and your neighbours all knew each other, met regularly, chatted over that garden fence. Now it's every man, woman and child for themselves, and when it comes to noise, they don't care who they inflict it on, how long they inflict it for and what damage it causes to the person suffering with it.

The after-shock of noise assault

Even once a person has moved away from a situation of noise abuse, the after effects can last a long time, sometimes years, sometimes even a life time. It can affect every aspect of a person's life, not just where the source of the noise abuse originated, it is a long term healing process that for some, never, ever, gets better.

What can be done? Well, there is obviously no instant cure, or solution. Better education, better housing, changing a nations attitudes. Difficult isn't it? But there are enough good people out there who might just make a difference if they were given the chance to show you can enjoy your life without 100 decibels of noise.

Tougher & Faster Action

What we know for sure needs to be done, is tougher action on those who cause noise abuse, faster action, tougher consequences for non conformances. Those in power have never had to suffer the way noise abuse victims have had to suffer. If they only knew a small amount of what a person goes through, you can bet it would be sorted out a lot quicker.

We need to get tough on people who want to live in an anti social manner, we need to say 'Enough, It stops NOW'.

Mend Britain, make it great again.

Well written article. Could not agree more have just a year of living under babies and children who thump up and down their flat. Adults were no better and constantly whooped at their offspring. It made life hell and impacted severely on my studies a... read more »
